Relevant beyond the classroom
Service-oriented Champlainers work to make the city a better place and raise awareness about global causes by:
- Cooking soup for the Salvation Army
- Sponsoring clothing swaps—a “buffet for clothes,” as one organizer put it—for a temporary shelter agency
- Mentoring local children
- Helping to rebuild New Orleans
- Sponsoring a battle of the bands to raise funds for hurricane victims
- Organizing teach-ins and rallies for social causes, such as the New Sudanese Education Student Initiative
- Participating in events organized by the Center for Service and Civic Engagement and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion
