Community

Champlain students and faculty are members of Burlington’s community, helping to connect with their neighbors and people across the state.

Rewarding

  • Through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, Champlain Accounting students learn to prepare income tax returns for low-income Vermonters.
  • Champlain’s Center for Service and Civic Engagement has a tremendous impact on the community through student service and leadership.
  • Champlain’s Office of Student Diversity and Inclusion sponsors film series, dialogues, festivals, music and refugee art exhibits, plus such events as Black History Month Workshop Series.
Neighborkeepers, a non-profit founded by Adjunct Professor Hal Colston, recruits, trains and matches volunteers with families who are committed to breaking the cycle of poverty. [link to Dan’s profile of Colston]
  • The college’s New American Student Scholarship Program provides assistance to refugee students and their families, and Vermont First Scholarships assist first-generation college students from throughout the state.
