Presidential Direction
- Focus on Financial, Racial/Ethnic, Geographic Diversity
- Need both short-term and long-term (5 to 10 years out) goals and recommendations
- Recommendations need to include diversity of student body, faculty and staff as well as the Board of Trustees
- Champlain College diversity is increasing but inadequate
- There are no magic numbers or quotas
- Want our community to be an environment of inclusion
- Need to provide richer opportunities for people of different viewpoints to interact
- Need for "others" to become "less foreign;" we are all "others"
- We will all learn more by hearing different histories
- More diverse community may be less comfortable and our recommendations need to plan for that potential outcome
