- Admissions Office pursues outreach to diverse communities including students of color from Burlington High school through their "Shades of Ebony" program and through joint visit with Champlain faculty to six NYC high schools to identify sites for our student teachers to have experiences in diverse settings and to assist in the recruitment of diverse students to Champlain
- Deliberative Dialogue facilitates dialogue on issues of sexuality, diversity, and pluralism
- Global Leadership Initiative encourages students in the International Business program to participate in international internships and teaches leadership and cross-cultural communication and understanding
- Global Modules within classes provide online conversations with students from countries around the globe
- International Festival hosted by the International Club celebrates global cultures and international students on campus
- Specialized orientation program for International Students helps transition students arriving from abroad into the regular orientation program
- Multicultural Affairs Committee finds ways to celebrate diversity and push the institution to see and address issues of diversity and inclusion
- Summer Writers Conference invitation extended to high school students, including ten students from Beacon School in NYC to attend the conference on campus
- Study Abroad Opportunities for students provide experiences living and studying in other cultures
- Cultural immersion experience in Cariacou (Spring 07), a 12-credit, multi-faceted experience
- Single Parent Program supports non-traditional students on campus through a variety of resources
Miracle Corners of the World brought students from New York City and abroad to Champlain for a summer experience in global leadership- International Student House offers the opportunity for American and international students to live together and exchange cultural experiences
- Center for Service and Civic Engagement provides opportunities for students to interact with partners in the community including diverse populations
- URGE (Underrepresented Groups for Equality) strives to create a safe place for supportive interactions and social justice-oriented dialogue among all members of the Champlain community
- Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day provides educational workshops and activities including: "Voices of Diversity" performance on what it means to be white, "MLK and Gandhi" workshop, a viewing of "Bamboozled" with discussion, speech and poetry readings, stories of service, and viewing of "Crash"
- Tunnels of Awareness (3 week cross-disciplinary art installment) reviewed oppression around the world throughout time, highlighted activists, and outlined ways to create hope for the future
- "Uprooting Racism" book discussion group (by Paul Kivel)
- "Evening of Soul" showcased traditional soul foods, African drum/dance performance, gospel performance, student performances
- "Social Injustice in a Diverse Society" and "Intercultural Communications" classes
- "Neighborkeepers" program directed by Hal Colston
- Social Justice Training through Assistant Director of Residential Life Lara Scott
- C.O.R.E. Learning Center provides assistance to teachers in designing learning activities (and environments) that work well for non-English speakers, making the most from the presence of diverse student cultures in regard to course content, and student engagement
- Accounting Program elective, ACC 370 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, trains students through the IRS and the Vermont Department of Taxes to prepare income tax forms in order to assist low-income and elderly Vermonters, refugees and immigrants from many countries, often working through interpreters
- Education students are placed in Burlington Schools with ELL students
- DREAM program connects Champlain students with underprivileged students in local community
- "Practically Speaking" offers a series of ten-week sessions in Spanish and French languages -- with the goal of stimulating interest in learning a language and in study abroad
- "World Movie Night" shows a foreign film on campus, introduced by someone able to alert students to "differences" to watch for in the film
- International Faculty Exchange Program provides maximum opportunities to share a faculty member's views with a large cross section of students (3 Champlain faculty to Mumbai and two here so far)
- Vermont Global Trade Partnership
- Institutional support of the Vermont Council on World Affairs, whose missions is to "promote an awareness and understanding of world affairs among all Vermonters," provides speakers and programs on topics of global interest and importance, open to Champlain students faculty and staff (such as the Global Symposia featuring Thomas Friedman, Robert Reich and Lester Brown)
- Music Makers has a commitment to learn and perform songs from other cultures and languages
- Champlain Theatre provides opportunities for students to confront "otherness" issues, both as audience and participants; performances include "A Raisin in the Sun" (African-American struggles with race issues and economic challenges) and "The Trojan Women" (brutality against women during war time) and events under the umbrella of The Voices of Diversity Project
