Majors/Areas of Study
The majors and areas of study within the Communication and Creative Media (CCM) division at Champlain College form a vital and growing ecosystem of passions, pursuits and professional pathways that position CCM students to not only launch successful careers but also lead enriching and engaged lives. The range of communication and creative media courses and programs that we have at Champlain – from game design to graphic design, from digital filmmaking to professional writing – make CCM an ideal division for those who want to be the designers, creators, communicators, writers, and producers capable of thriving in an ever-changing media and communication environment.

Course Areas:
Art
While much of our coursework involves the use of cutting-edge digital technologies, our expanding range of courses in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and printmaking play a crucial role in developing the creative capacities of our students.
Literature
Traditions of storytelling and written expression continue to shape almost all forms of creative media today. Our courses in Fiction, Drama, American Literature, British Literature, Modern Canadian Literature, Irish Literature, World Literature, Advanced Literature Seminar and Shakespearean Drama not only serve other majors on campus (such as Education), they also provide all Champlain students with an opportunity to explore the connections between a wide range of literary traditions and their professional area of study.
Foreign Languages
We currently offer 3 levels of French, 3 levels of Spanish, and 5 levels of Japanese (including a travel course exploring Japanese Language and Culture). There is an active Japanese Club, which meets regularly to share interests in Japanese culture and cuisine. Champlain has also hosted the French International Film Festival for the past two years. Students who wish to pursue other languages can apply to participate in our “course sharing” program with St. Michael’s College.
Interactive Media
As nearly all forms of communication and creative media are being impacted by the juggernaut of digitization, we feel it is vitally important for as many students as possible to gain experience with web design, interactive media design, user interface design, and more. Our ever-changing courses in the interactive media area ensure that Champlain students have access to the most current practices in this dynamic field.
