Learning 2008
October 26-29, 2008, Orlando, Florida
The Emergent Media Center returned with another group of students, Auston Montville, Max Nichols, Chris Rolfs, Dan Peavey, Kate Baxter and Vanessa Blokland, to Elliott Masie's Learning 2008 conference in Orlando, Florida. This year, their mission was to create a serious learning game focused on teleworking in less than three days. The result, a game called Teletrust, serves as a tool to help create and maintain relationships with co-workers. In order for this game to be adaptable and useful to companies across the globe, the team came up with an implementation tool that will allow companies to customize scenarios in the game to relate to their workplace. The students were accompanied by staff and faculty members Ann DeMarle, Ray McCarthy Bergeron and Robin Lane.

SEABA Art Hop
September 5-6, 2008, Burlington, Vermont
The South End Arts and Business Association's (SEABA) South End Art Hop engulfs Burlington every year with more than 600 artists displaying their work in over 100 studios and business locations. In 2008, a prime example of connected community took place when Champlain College's Emergent Media Center--in partnership with the Fletcher Free Library and broadband support by Burlington Telecom-showcased an innovative type of fusion: art, programming and learning. Displays included student-crafted interactive games produced with national partners, Google mapping technology customized for our own community, a sound lab and, of course, lots of visual experiences! The experience was housed at SoundToys--a Burlington-based audio plug-ins software company.
