BURLINGTON, Vt. - A provocative mix of art will showcase the talents of Champlain College students, alumni, faculty and staff during the 17th annual South End Art Hop on Sept. 11 and 12.

Champlain College's Communication and Creative Media (CCM) Division expanded its sponsorship of the annual weekend arts event this year. The event features more than 500 artists displaying their work in 100-plus expected and unexpected business and studio locations along Pine Street and the city.

Along with the traditional paintings and sculptures in the juried art show and sale, there will also be an artist-designed mini-golf course, a local designer fashion show, musical jam sessions, dance, yoga, dog art, amake-your-own art and photography opportunities during the two-day celebration. Most events and galleries are free.

Champlain College's Art Hop site is located at Champlain Valley Millworks, 16 Kilburn St. and will be open Friday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On display will be a collection of graphic design, painting, sculpture, photography, live musical performance, performance art and computer-based media. There will also be an interactive performance piece by Assistant Dean of CCM Eric Ronis and an Irish music  performance by O'hAnleigh. Many artists and students will be on hand to talk about their work.

Champlain College's Emergent Media Center will showcase an innovative type of fusion: art, programming, design and learning.  There will be student-crafted interactive media: games for healthcare, archeology, training, and social change; Google mapping technology customized for our community; and iPhone app development.

The CCM Division at Champlain has experienced more change in the past 10 years than they had in the previous 100, and in CCM, students learn the newest trends in these professions. "Nowhere else in the country can you study this broad range of majors under one roof," said Jeff Rutenbeck, dean of the division. "We're committed to providing the most up-to-date and professionally relevant programs, and we constantly work at developing additional programs that are just as innovative."

CCM offers the following majors: Broadcasting, Communication, Digital Filmmaking, Game Art and Animation, Game Design, Graphic Design and Digital Media, Professional Writing, and Public Relations.
