8:00 – 11:30am    Residential Student Move In         Your Residence Hall

All residence halls open at 8am, so take yourstudents belongings to their room and begin settling in.  Also meet the Residential Life Staff and get acquainted with your student’s new neighbors.

8:00 – 11:30am    Orientation Check In for Residential Students         Hauke Courtyard

Check in at your convenience between 8 and 11:30am to pick up your Orientation packet. All students may pick up their Champlain College ID, drop off outstanding health forms, pick up books, learn about work-study opportunities, sign up for bank accounts, and get settled in during this time.

8:00 – 11:30am    Nuts and Bolts to Beginning Your College Career         IDX, SLC Fireside Lounge

If your student didn’t have a chance to send us their photo ID, come to the SLC and get their picture taken; we’ll make an ID for them to pick up later at the Information Table. All students are required to register for the campus emergency alert system so make sure to stop by, meet the Campus Public Safety Staff and register. The emergency alert system notifies students of any emergency or crisis situation occurring on or near campus. Bring your student’s laptop to get an account set up and receive assistance connecting to the network. Ski Pass Sign up will also be available so they can get their seasons pass.

10:30 – 11:30am    Check In for Commuter Students         Hauke Courtyard

Students check in to receive Orientation packets. All students may have their photo ID taken, drop off outstanding health forms, pick up books, learn about work-study opportunities, and sign up for bank accounts, if needed. Bring your student’s laptop to get an account set up and receive assistance connecting to the network. Ski Pass Sign up will also be available so they can get their seasons pass. Make sure to ask about the Commuter Breakfast scheduled for Saturday at 8:00am.

11:30 – 1:00pm    Lunch for Students, Families and Friends         IDX, SLC Dining Hall, or Hauke Courtyard

All students, families and friends are invited to enjoy a BBQ. Students may use this time to tie up any loose ends, say goodbye to friends and family, and celebrate the start of their college career.

1:00 – 1:30pm    President’s Welcome         Aiken Lawn

Join President David Finney, faculty and staff for an official welcome to Champlain College before students begin a weekend of Orientation activities. Also hear from the Director of Admission, Ian Mortimer, and a Student Government Association (SGA) Representative as we begin this new adventure together.

1:45 – 2:30pm    Academic Coaching (optional)         Argosy Gymnasium

The academic demands associated with college courses are often quite different from those encountered by students during high school. Champlain College's Counseling Department has a wonderful and unique collaboration with the Stern Center for Language and Learning to help students address these new academic demands. In this session families will learn more specifics about those academic demands, so you know what your student is likely to be facing. In addition, we will provide an overview of academic coaching, with information about how this service can make the difference between a “passing” first year and a “stellar” first year. We hope you will join us.

1:45 – 3:00pm    Family Send Off Reception (optional)         IDX, SLC Fireside Lounge

Families feel free to come by and grab a sweet treat and beverage and win some Champlain College ‘gear’ on your way out of town. This is a great time to get any last minute questions addressed and meet some members of the admissions, parent and alumni teams. Champlain College is proud of its strong parent network, and we hope you will stop by and meet additional members of the Champlain community.

Good luck with this big transition and we look forward to seeing you at Family Weekend on October 24, 2009.
