Our People
Teaching, broadcasting, computer networking, snowboarding, service, study abroad—whatever they’re doing, Champlainers are passionate about it. The enthusiasm is infectious, the conversations never stuffy. Take Distinguished Scholar Willard Sterne Randall, who teaches history “like it’s breaking news.” During the 2007 Presidential race, Elaine Young, assistant program director of e-business and marketing, reviewed the candidates’ use of social media on her blog. When former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in Pakistan, National Public Radio listeners heard Professional Writing Program Director Tim Brookes’ on-the-ground observations.
Students are zealous, too. Amy Beatties’ small business management class, inspired by her story about microfinancing in developing countries, raised money to fund eight entrepreneurial projects around the world. Other students coordinated a week of events as part of Focus the Nation, a national education initiative designed to explore global warming solutions for the U.S. These are just a few examples of the kind of people who generate ideas and take action, every day, at Champlain College.
