Why Champlain?
Major he wanted, responsiveness of people
Right at home
When Steve went home over Thanksgiving during his first semester, he thought, “Why is everything so far away?” In a few months he’s come to appreciate how accessible Burlington is. “I live in Spinner Place, an apartment-style residence hall, where I can get pizza or Thai takeout right next door.” People, he adds, “are cheerier here. The popcorn kettle guy on Church Street is so nice!”
Besides making friends easily on campus, he’s made connections locally. For his “awesome” Intercultural Communications class, he went to an Islamic prayer service. A local factory tour convinced him, “I love Lake Champlain Chocolate.” His advice for prospective students? Visit the campus and contact people. “I talked to Gary Kessler [in Digital and Computer Forensics] a lot before I came; in fact, I have an entire file of Champlain correspondence. People were really responsive.”
