Communication
Communication continues to be one of the fastest growing fields in the 21st Century, and Champlain's program offers an excellent preparation for work in various communication fields such as: radio, television, magazines and newspapers, the Web, public relations, advertising, conflict management, and public address. In addition to career placement the program offers a solid grounding for those students who are looking to go on to graduate school.
Communication meets the needs of the increasing number of students who enter Champlain College, not immediately seeking to specialize in one particular area, but instead want and need to experiment with a wider variety of related course work.
In the Mass Media Courses you'll learn to produce a quality media product with assignments built around real-world media situations such as shooting, writing, and editing a TV news story, a Web news release or producing a music video under deadline. In the Human Communication courses you will get a firm grounding in communication theory and hone your skills as an effective speaker, small group member, and savvy listener.
Step back and look at the media with a critical eye by investigating the political and economic institutions that have shaped the media. Examine the artistic and social heritage through which film, broadcasting and the print media have developed. Study the social and psychological structures, which both influence and are influenced by the media.
Through a balanced approach, the program simultaneously develops technical skill and an understanding of the artistic, historical and theoretical traditions on which the discipline is built.
Are you ready to become a media-savvy professional in a fast-paced environment that spans the broadcast industry, corporate America and the nonprofit world? Are you ready to enter the world of law, education, politics, business management or sales?
At Champlain, you'll dig right in to learn things you never thought possible.
