If your dreams of a career in business reach around the globe, if your desire for travel goes beyond looking at pictures in coffee table books and travel magazines, and if you want to make your mark in the world, then you can make the International Business major at Champlain College your passport to a successful, rewarding career.

This is a program for someone who recognizes the potential for a globally-oriented business career. You will take the experiential skills you learn in the textbook and apply them on a scale that reflects the changing nature of business as defined by the global economy. Explore career opportunities in management, marketing, finance, human resource management, and logistics and operations.

Global commerce and the Internet have made business far more competitive and opened up commensurately more opportunities. To prepare you to enter new and emerging global markets, Champlain's International Business program explores cross-cultural communication and understanding, international marketing, import/export procedures, international financial mechanisms, and international trade strategies and leadership.

You'll work closely with a multinational corporation and/or an international government agency on specific international projects, as well as intern with a company or organization domestically or abroad.

Vermont Global Trade Partnership

Working with the State of Vermont's Department of Economic Development, the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce and the United States Foreign Commercial Service, Champlain College has helped to create and is part of the Vermont Global Trade Partnership. This partnership is designed to promote international trade through export/import assistance, custom training programs, and international market research for Vermont businesses and organizations. Champlain College International Business students directly assist these businesses and organizations through research, consulting, and assisting in international trade missions.

Program Highlights
- Begin your international business courses your first semester to develop a solid foundation. Choose to spend a semester studying abroad in Europe, Asia or another region of the world through Champlain's ISEP program.
- Develop or improve your foreign language skills while learning about the customs and histories of other countries and cultures. Champlain's proximity to the Canadian border allows us literally to take your classroom to the international marketplace.
- Work in teams on real-life projects with Vermont companies including Burton Snowboards, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Isis Sportswear for Women, Boyden Farm Winery, New England Over Shoe (NEOS), Earth Toys, JetBlue and Mad River Rocket, as well as leading international business assistance organizations such as the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Vermont Global Trade Partnership and the State Chamber of Commerce.
- Learn international leadership skills through the Global Leadership Initiative, a hands-on learning program designed to teach effective leadership skills for future business leaders in the global community.
- Enjoy hands-on internships with multinational companies. Champlain's International Business students have interned in New York City and in countries including Ghana, Honduras, Mexico, Switzerland, Australia, Taiwan, China and the United Arab Emirates.

The Vermont State Chamber of Commerce has developed strong relationships with U.S. and Taiwan government officials, business executives and education leaders through a series of trade missions to Taiwan. The Vermont Global Trade Partnership (VGTP) is Vermont's center for international business assistance. Formed in 2004, the Trade Partnership provides technical assistance and trade counseling, import and export leads, educational programs, coordinated trade missions and trade shows, and many other useful services to help Vermont companies seeking to succeed in international markets.

It is the Mission of the Vermont Global Trade Partnership to provide -- through collaboration -- sustainable, cost effective and coordinated assistance to Vermont companies doing business in the global marketplace with emphasis on providing technical assistance, information, facilitation, training and support.

The Partnership is comprised of Vermont's abundant public and private international trade resources, coordinated through the leadership of Vermont's Director of International Trade in the Agency of Commerce & Community Development.

The VGTP office is located in the S.D. Ireland Family Global Business and Technology Center.

The U.S. Department of Education, Business and International Education Program was created to promote education and training that will contribute to the ability of United States business to prosper in an international economy.
