Champlain College Young Writer’s Conference
May 21 - 23, 2010
The Champlain College Young Writers’ Conference (CCYWC), a spring writing workshop specifically for high school students, takes place this May 21-May 23 on the hillside campus of Burlington's Champlain College. For dedicated young writers, it is a chance to meet others who share their passion for telling the stories of their lives and to study the craft with some of New England's most celebrated authors and teachers.
Participate in over ten hours of intensive workshops in fiction, poetry, song writing, creative nonfiction, and performance theatre; exchange and critique manuscripts; hear faculty members read; and share work with the YWC community. On Friday, listen to our keynote speaker, novelist and professor, Robert Cohen. Rob is the author of the novels Amateur Barbarians, Inspired Sleep, The Here and Now, and The Organ Builder, as well as a collection of stories, The Varieties of Romantic Experience. His work has appeared in Harpers, The Atlantic, Paris Review, The Believer, and many other magazines. His awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Whiting Writers Award, a Lila Wallace Writers Award, and a Pushcart Prize. He teaches in the Department of English and American Literatures at Middlebury College.
And there's more: Friday night, read poems and fiction to open mike, or read to jazz with The Vermont Poetry-Jazz Ensemble (PoJazz), or become part of The Young Writers' Improvisational Theatre. On Saturday, slam the night away with the renowned Vermont Slam Champion, Geof Hewitt; and later, kick up your heels at The Spectacular Young Writers' Contra Dance. High school teachers are also very cordially invited to attend: as chaperones, they participate in their own writing workshop.
