Dear Champlain Community,
I hope this letter finds you well. We have had a great summer in Burlington and are excited about the upcoming year.
As a parent and college president, I am very aware of the rising scrutiny around higher education and its ability to prepare students for the real world. Although there are incremental signals that provide hope for U.S. job growth, the reality is that graduating students without marketable skills and experiences will have an increasingly difficult time transitioning into this new economy.
At Champlain, we spend a lot of time, energy and resources to insure that our students are as career-ready and marketable as possible. It has been the cornerstone of our educational model since 1878. However, in the end, we have one set of statistics that informs us if we are staying true to our mission.
Last month we received our job placement statistics for the class of 2012 and early reports on the class 2013. I could not be prouder of the results.
Nearly 90 percent of students in last year's graduating class who responded to our survey are employed in the field that they studied. This figure, which includes traditional undergraduates in all of our majors, demonstrates the benefits of what I believe is the most complete education in the country. The integration of theory and practice is an educational imperative that I take very seriously, and I believe we have a model that works to create passionate and employable graduates.
Please email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have any questions regarding Champlain's commitment to career preparation or about college in general.
