Lake Night With Jack Carpenter Banner

Champlain student Jack Carpenter '15, a broadcast and streaming media major, debuted his own own sketch comedy show, Lake Night with Jack Carpenter on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The second episode is to premier on Nov. 13. The program is available to watch on the RETN network, Channel 16 in Burlington, at 10 p.m., as well as online on his YouTube channel Jackinthebox1313 on Thursday.

Carpenter is thrilled to write, direct, and host his own sketch comedy show, which surfaced after his appearance on NBC's Late Night With Jimmy Fallon in August. "RETN viewed it and said they were very impressed. I think it's going to be broadcasted on affiliate stations beyond Burlington in the near future," he said. He notes that none of this would have been possible without the help from his classmates who make up the majority of the cast and crew.

Carpenter and his cast can be seen in various segments, which share similarities with other late night television programs. If you like:

  • Jimmy Fallon's Opening Monologue on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, you'll like Carpenter's opening monologue. In the premier episode he parodied the government shutdown, Champlain College, and some scandalous news at University of Vermont
  • Alec Kozlowski and Jackie Carroll in the "Weekend 'Supdate" sketch"Weekend Update" on Saturday Night Live (SNL), you'll love the "Weekend ‘Supdate" on Lake Night with Jack Carpenter, a parody news anchor sketch with News from the Greeks, for the Greeks, featuring students Alec Kozlowski and Jackie Carroll
  • The opening skit and introduction on SNL, then you'll appreciate ‘Homeless to Co-Host,' featuring Lake Night with Jack Carpenter co-host, Ben Blask '15
  • Jimmy Kimmel Live's "Lie Witness News," you'll get a kick out of "#FakingNews," where co-star Josh Miller '16 takes "news" on the government shutdown to Church Street and interviews innocent bystanders on the subject
  • The Late Show with David Letterman's celebrity interviews, you'll enjoy Carpenter's interview with John Stork, a Burlington street performer who seasonally brings his acrobatics learned at Circus Smirkus to Church Street's many pedestrians
  • The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson's comedy sketches, you may favorite the T.A.S.P.(Teen Alcohol Safety Program) sketch

In the second episode, you can expect a music video for an original song, "Hawaiian Shirt Nation."

Hawaiian Shirt NationNew episodes will premiere bi-weekly on RETN network (channel 16 in Burlington) and on YouTube, but the most recent episode of the show will air every Wednesday night at 10 p.m. on RETN.

In the new year, Carpenter will be spending a semester studying abroad at Champlain's Dublin, Ireland campus. Although there will be a hiatus in the show, Carpenter and his team plan on resuming when he returns and adding live studio components to the pre-recorded segments.

About Lake Night with Jack Carpenter
Lake Night with Jack Carpenter is a compilation of all things humorous in the college realm according to student, comedian, writer, and now emcee, Jack Carpenter. After making his national television debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Carpenter decided to create his own local variety show based on the news and events of Burlington, VT, as a precursor to hopefully landing a job writing for a late night talk show or Saturday Night Live after graduating.
