Champlain 10th Hooding & Commencement on May 10

A commencement and hooding ceremony for Master's degree candidates will be held Friday, May 10 at Roger H. Perry Hall lawn.

Some 110 students will participate in the ceremony. Former Vt. Gov. Madeleine M. Kunin, who received a Champlain College honorary degree - Doctor of Public Service — in 2008, will give the keynote speech. The alumni welcome will be by C. Sebastian Massey, '12 — Mediation & Applied Conflict Studies.

Tickets are required for attendance on May 10. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 10. Seating in the tent for guests will open at 9 a.m. The ceremony should conclude around 11:30. Immediately following the ceremony, a reception will be held in the IDX Student Center.

Kunin was the fourth woman to be elected Governor in the U.S. and the first woman to serve as Governor of Vermont. She was born in Zurich, Switzerland and immigrated to the United States with her mother and brother during World War II. She served as Deputy Secretary of Education and Ambassador to Switzerland in the Clinton Administration. She is the founder of the Institute for Sustainable Communities, a non-government organization which focuses on climate change and civic society.

At present, she is a Marsh Professor at the University of Vermont, a commentator on Vermont Public Radio, and a blogger on the Huffington Post.

She is the author of the recently published book, The New Feminist Agenda, Defining the Next Revolution for Women, Work and Family,selected as an Editor's Choice by The New York Times. She is married to John W. Hennessey and the mother of four children and five grandchildren, two step- children and three step grandchildren. She resides in Burlington, Vermont.
