Champlain College Announces Online Master of Science in Information Security Operations

Champlain College, winner of SC Magazine's Best Cybersecurity Higher Education Award, today introduced its new online Master of Science in Information Security Operations. It is the first advanced degree designed to elevate the practitioner's strategic planning abilities in the prevention and response to cybersecurity incidents such as data loss and cybercrime, while increasing technical skills and industry acuity.

"Cyberspace and infrastructure vulnerabilities are constantly evolving and addressing those weaknesses is critical to enterprise-wide security," said Mika Nash, academic dean, Division of Champlain College Online at Champlain College. "Champlain College's new online M.S. Information Security Operations degree program prepares our students to face problems with sought-after expertise and enables them to effect change at the operational level."

By 2022, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 36.5 percent employment growth for information security professionals in need of a bachelor's or master's degree with more than 200,000 positions already open. This program was developed to fill a gap in the information security needs of enterprises across the country and in a sector experiencing significant job market growth.

"There is an increasingly acute need for security professionals who can bridge big picture enterprise strategy with day-to-day operations," said Felix Lopez, Director of Enterprise Programs at MetLife. "This program will help fill that void, providing real strategic value to the enterprise while also supporting our company's commitment to career growth and advancement opportunities for our employees."

Most graduate degree programs focus on technology alongside policy analysis and creation. Champlain College's M.S. in Information Security Operations, that is completed 100% online, empowers IT professionals to examine incidents and plan responses contextually and systematically. Through hands-on experiential learning and assignments, the M.S. in Information Security Operations prepares students to:

  • Identify risks and determine the appropriate mediations
  • Understand current and future attack vectors
  • Protect the enterprise and critical information stored there
  • Fill the gap by increasing operator and administrator effectiveness and organizational agility

"Champlain's M.S. in Information Security Operations tips the scales in favor of security leaders and practitioners facing information security challenges everyday," said John P. Pironti, president of IP Architects, a global thought leader and consultant with over 20 years experience in information risk management. "It is designed for security leaders and practitioners who want to move beyond theory and instead focus on the practical and effective application of information security methods, practices, tools, and techniques."

The next session start date for the online M.S. in Information Security Operations is March 14,  with an application deadline of Monday, Feb. 8. The master's program consists of two online eight-week terms per semester, three semesters per year, and is designed for bachelor's-prepared information security and IT professionals. The program is also available for employees of truED Alliance organizations who meet the admission requirements. Champlain College is now accepting applications to the program, and prospective students can apply online here.
