Champlain to Host an Evening with Activist Tim Wise

Tim Wise

Champlain College will present an evening with Tim Wise, a nationally renowned anti-racist, activist, and writer, on Nov. 20. His talk entitled "A Lens On Post Racial Ideology, Systems, Blame and Responsibility," is presented in collaboration with Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger, the City of Burlington, and the Burlington and Winooski School District Partnership for Change. The free event will be in Champlain College's Argosy Gymnasium at 6:30 p.m.

Wise, whom philosopher Corel West calls, "A vanilla brother in the tradition of (antiracism and antislavery fighter) John Brown," is among the most prominent anti-racist writers and educators in the United States. He was named one of "25 Visionaries Who are Changing Your World," by Utne Reader in 2010, and has spoken in all 50 states of the U.S., on more than 800 college and high school campuses, and to community groups across the nation.

The author of six books on the subject and regular contributor to educational radio and television programs, Wise has provided anti-racism training to teachers, corporate, government, entertainment, military and law enforcement officials on methods for dismantling racism in their institutions. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. Tickets are available at the Champlain College HUB information desk in the IDX Student Life Center, as well as at Burlington High School, and Burlington City Hall beginning on Monday, Oct. 7. There are a limited number of tickets available in the Argosy Gymnasium, but there may be a number of overflow tickets for a live simulcast in the Champlain College Alumni Auditorium if necessary. There is a limit of five tickets per person.
