Assistant Professor David Lustgarten
David Lustgarten began at Champlain College as an adjunct instructor in graphic design in the fall of 1998, and after making the difficult decision to close his personal design practice of 18 years joined Champlain as full time faculty in the fall of 2000. He completed his BFA in graphic design at the Cooper Union in New York City in 1985, and completed his Masters of Interdisciplinary Arts at Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont in 2004. David has served as the program director of the Graphic Design & Digital Media program since 2006.
Excerpts from Assistant Professor Lustgarten's speech at Convocation to our incoming students:
David asked the students to "be fully in your experience-in each moment, in each place, with each teacher and each group of classmates. Don't sit passively waiting for it to happen to you, but be active in making your own educational experience happen. Second, bring that experience out into your whole life. Don't drop it into a storage container at the classroom door, but rather dissolve the line between 'school' and 'the real world' to where they become one in the same experience. And I know it may not always seem to be the case, but we faculty are actually your friends and allies in this effort. Turn to us to assist in making your experience here the fullest it can be, and in building the strongest springboard from which you may leap into the rest of your life experience."
"Welcome, class of 2015. Welcome to Champlain College in the year 2011. May both your college and your professional experiences now begin in earnest, and may you strive, thrive, and reap the truest riches of life all along the way."
