Champlain has created Centers of Excellence — on-campus learning centers with studio-like environments— that put students' classroom knowledge to the test through practical application and hands-on experience on professional projects.
Students across all divisions work together to publish books, launch businesses, develop games and applications, and assist the public and private sectors investigate cybercrime, digital forensics and information assurance initiatives. At the core of many of our Centers of Excellence is creativity. For students in the Division of Communication and Creative Media, they can test their knowledge and increase their skills in the Champlain College Publishing Initiative, the Emergent Media Center and the Game Studio.
- Champlain College Publishing Initiative (CCPI): Champlain students are actively involved in the twenty-first century world of publishing. Whether you're a writer, editor, copyeditor, proof-reader, graphic designer, illustrator, artist, publicist, videographer, web developer or social media strategist, CCPI has a place for you to get involved.
- Emergent Media Center (EMC): In partnership with industry, public institutions and nonprofits, students involved in the EMC collaborative with faculty and clients to develop new concepts, processes, uses and applications for games and other emergent media.
- Game Studio: The cohort experience of the Game Studio emphasizes teamwork across all game development disciplines offered at Champlain: Game Art & Animation, Game Design, and Game Programming, along with Business majors specializing in Game Production. Students learn essential professional social skills as they master the latest game development expertise and technology.
