Biography

Dr. McGill-O'Rourke has worked in health care since 1981 in a variety of leadership roles.  Joining Gifford Medical Center in October 2009, she is currently the Vice President of Operations, and is responsible for overseeing a variety of clinical departments including Radiology, Laboratory, Nuclear Medicine, and Cardio-Pulmonary Services, Environmental Services, Food and Nutrition, Facilities and Strategic Planning.  Prior to coming to Gifford, in a similar role, she was Vice President of Ancillary and Support Services at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital.

Andrea has been a part-time instructor for the past 22 years at the college and university level.  She has taught at the University of Maine and the University of Connecticut in both undergraduate and graduate level courses.  She has a passion for teaching engaged adult learners and encouraging students to actively integrate their professional health care experience with virtual classroom dialogue, and empirical knowledge.

Dr. McGill-O'Rourke received her Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania and holds a clinical license in VT and a national certification in employee assistance counseling.  She serves on the Vermont National Association of Social Worker's (NASW) Board of Directors as a member and chair of the continuing education committee.  She holds a PhD in Education from the University of Maine School of Education and Human Development.  Her scholarship and research interests have focused on women and leadership.  She is specifically interested in organizational culture and how gender reflects and is reflected upon, within diverse organizational settings.  Additionally, she is a member of Vermont Women in Higher Education.
