About Tawnya McDonald

Tawnya is the Director of the Social Work Program and is a Vermont Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW). Tawnya earned her Master's in Social Work degree from McGill University and a post-graduate certificate in the Clinical Treatment of Children and Adolescents from Smith College of Social Work. Her clinical employment has been working in the mental health field specializing in children, adolescents, trauma, women, sexuality and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

Prior to joining the Social Work Program at Champlain College in 2009, Tawnya was a member of the Social Work Faculty and Director of Field Education, SUNY Plattsburgh, and held adjunct positions at Champlain College, Johnson State College, and Trinity College of Vermont.

In addition to her role as the Social Work Program Director, Tawnya is an Associate Professor,teaching in a range of social work courses including Introduction to Social Work; Human Behavior: Person in Environment; Social Injustice in a Diverse Society; Generalist Practice I;  Advanced Social Work Practice; International Social Work; Field Experience I & II;  Integrated Field Practicum Seminars I & II; and the Social Work College Capstone.

Tawnya's academic interests include systems and organizations, field education, human behavior, sexuality,  mental health, adolescents, resiliency and GLBT issues.
