Biography

A freelance write, editor and copyeditor, I am currently pursuing an MFA in writing for children and young adults at Vermont College of Fine Arts. In 2013 I received the Norma Fox Mazer Award from VCFA and the PEN New England Susan P. Bloom Discovery Award for my YA novel, with the working title "Three Minutes Thirty."

I am a member of the Society of Children's Book Writer's and Illustrator's Assistant Regional Advisor for Northern New England and a member and past board member of the League of Vermont Writers. My work has appeared in a number of magazines, including Appleseeds, Vermont Magazine and edible Green Mountains, as well as in local newspapers, and I contributed to the anthology, At Grandmother's Table: Women Write about Food, Life, and the Enduring Bond between Grandmothers and Granddaughters (Fairpoint Press 2000).

Little known fact: I have a master's degree, not in science, but in German, the language of science. I received a B.A. in English and German from Colby College and an M.A. in German from the University of Vermont.

In the past, I worked as a children's librarian. Currently I teach Professional Copyediting and Senior Portfolio at Champlain.
