  1. What is the cost for the semester?
    Students pay regular Champlain tuition, housing (Main Street Suites rate)and board (10 meals per week) fees directly to Champlain for Fall 2008. Please visit the Cost and Financial Assistance page for more information.

  2. Where is the Academic Center located?
    The Academic Center is at 43 Lower Leeson Street, Dublin 2, close to St. Stephen’s Green and in the heart of Dublin’s Georgian office district and located directly on major bus lines.

  3. What are the facilities like at the Academic Center?
    Champlain College Dublin Center has four floors in a historic Georgian building located in the heart of Dublin’s Georgian District. There are four classrooms, a computer lab and a comfortable lounge for students to relax, study, work online, eat and generally enjoy the academic and social environment.

  4. What kind of computer access will I have?
    The academic center is wired for high-speed Internet access in classrooms and labs as well as the capability for wireless access for convenient laptop and wireless peripheral usage.

  5. What is the housing situation like in Dublin?
    The student residence has two- and three-person rooms (some with en-suite bathroom /some shared bath) with a dining area in the basement. The residence hall is only a ten-minute walk to the academic center and conveniently located on a major bus line. There is a beautiful park several blocks from the residence.

  6. What will on-campus housing be like upon our return to Burlington?
    Before you leave for Montréal, you will complete a form for Residential Life indicating that you will be away for fall semester but wish to move back on campus for spring semester. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to e-mail reslife@champlain.edu. Students planning to attend Champlain Abroad for the spring semester are required to submit a $500 housing deposit with their $500 tuition deposit. If you are applying to go abroad for the spring and not approved for the program, you will be eligible to receive a refund of their deposit. If you are approved and decide not to go and do not live on campus for the spring, you would forfeit the deposit.

  7. Will there be a meal plan?
    Yes. A modified meal plan will be included in your program costs and will include a variety of cold breakfast foods and a catered dinner each weekday. There is a huge variety of eating options in Dublin from the traditional pubs to the ethnic restaurants. A grocery store is only a few minutes away from the residence hall.

  8. Are there going to be extra-curricular programs, lectures, field trips?
    Yes, there is a full co-and extra-curricular program.

  9. When does the semester begin and end?
    The Champlain semester runs at the same time as it does on the Burlington campus. Students check into the residence hall on the first day of the orientation program, which is usually the Friday before classes begin. Students taking a course at University College of Dublin (UCD) should expect that the UCD semester will end approximately three weeks after the Champlain semester.

  10. How much should students budget for extra expenses?
    In order to effectively plan your budget you need to track the changes in currency exchange check site such as http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic to assist in your planning. As you establish your budget, you should use your expenses in Burlington as a guide. However, you may find that you are tempted to spend more since you are in a new and exciting place. Students' expenses vary by their lifestyle. Expenses not covered by tuition and room include, books and supplies, some meals, local transportation, student travel and personal expenses.   11. Will internships be available?
    Internships are not available in Dublin at this time.

  12. Can students work in Ireland?
    Students are not eligible to work in Ireland at this time.

  13. Who makes up the faculty?
    Instructors are Irish. They have the same qualifications as Burlington faculty and are hired for their academic credentials as well as their up-to-date links with business and industry.

  14. What courses are being offered?
    You may take 12 or 15 credits:

    For those of you in the Business, Marketing, and Forensics programs, here are some program courses that will be tailored to take advantage of local professional opportunities:
    • MKT 330 Brand & Account Management
    • MGT 290A Global Business Career Experience
    • FOR 360 Cybercrime

    In addition, the following general education courses will also offer opportunities for students to interact with the local community:

    • ART 220 Cultural Immersion Through the Arts (Fine Arts or Sociology elective)*
    • ENG 3XX Cultural Immersion Through Irish Literature (Literature elective)*
    • HIS 3XX Modern Irish Social History (equivalent to HIS 313)
    • SCI 155 Global Environmental Earth Science (Lab science elective)
    • PHI 210 Critical Thinking
    • COM 270 Intercultural Communication
    • HIS 415 Contemporary World Issues
    • Students are required to take at least one of the * courses

  15. What sort of deposits do students need to pay?
    Champlain students will be charged the regular Champlain College tuition for your Champlain Abroad semester. A program deposit of $1,000.00 ($500.00 for tuition and $500.00 for housing) will be due by April 15th for the next academic year.

  16. What identification do we need to enter Ireland?
    You will need a passport to enter Ireland AND to return to the United States. You will also need to present a letter from Champlain College (and UCD, if appropriate) outlining the semester dates. Champlain College will provide you with this letter.

  17. Do students need a student visa to study in Canada for the semester?
    No student visa is required. However, since you will be studying in Ireland for more than 90 days, you will be required to register in person with the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) soon after arrival in Ireland. This registration will extend your stay to the last day of the academic program.

  18. What are the transportation options?
    Public transportation around the city and Ireland is affordable and excellent.

  19. What additional facilities (gym, library, etc.) will students have access to?
    None at this time.

  20. If students have questions about applying for Champlain College Dublin Centre, whom should they contact?

  21. What is the application process like?
    Students must follow the steps for Champlain Abroad Application. Applications may also be requested from Dr. Lynda Reid, Director of Champlain Abroad Recruiting. Applications must be submitted to the Director of Champlain Abroad Recruiting, Office of Admissions, Skiff.
  22. Deadlines: March 15 for fall semester
    October 15 for spring semester

  23. Are there any laws in Ireland that students should be aware of that are different than the US?
    Ireland is a different country, and they have their own laws. You will receive more information during future orientations.
  24. *Students interested in taking a UCD course must meet with the Provost, Robin Abramson, to discuss the possibilities (please call (802) 860-2729 to set up an appointment)
