Two weekend trips are offered for a nominal fee: to Québec City, capital of the province of Québec, and Ottawa, the capital of Canada.

No student visa is necessary for study programs of 6 months or less.

No. Montréal has a large population of native English speakers, and most French speakers are bilingual. However, French language classes will be available, and we encourage you to take advantage of them. Mastery of a second language is very attractive to employers.

  19. Can students have cars? What are the transportation options?
Although you may bring your car to Montréal, we strongly advise against it. Parking is VERY expensive and Champlain will not have student parking facilities. The U.S. Consulate in Montréal notes that car break-ins and car thefts are quite common in Montréal, and cars with foreign license plates can be particularly attractive targets. Public transportation around the city is excellent, and there are regular buses back to Burlington. Champlain College will provide Metro passes to program participants.

  21. Is my Champlain College student insurance valid in Montréal?
Yes. There is no difference in benefits. Claims will be paid the same as if you were at Champlain Burlington. However, you may have to pay first and then send the claim to CHP for reimbursement rather than having the provider bill the insurance company directly. If you are not on the College's insurance plan, you must confirm with your insurance company about coverage in Canada prior to going to Canada.
