Management Residency Program

For the MBA, MS in Managing Innovation & IT and MS in Digital Forensic Management Programs

The on-site Graduate Management Residency experience is one teaching module in the online course MBA 500: Integrated Reflective Practice, and occurs during the 6th week for the course. For the Residency, graduate students from several Champlain management programs come together in Burlington, Vermont, for facilitated workshops and seminars. The next Management Residency is scheduled for:

  • June 16 - 18, 2015 (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday)

The Management Residency provides an environment for disparate groups of students to come together in one location, expand their practical knowledge in a multitude of workshops and team activities, and foster new relationships through face-to-face interactions. Though the time is short and some may never see each other again, lifelong bonds are often built from the breadth and depth of interactions the residency environment allows.

Digital Forensic Research Workshop

For the MS in Digital Forensic Science Program

The required residency for students provides unparalleled opportunities for networking at the renowned Digital Forensic Research Workshop (DFRWS). The event represents the cutting edge in research in the digital forensics industry, the government and academia. To prepare for your research project, you’ll learn how to make a memorable presentation. The residency consists of a one-day Champlain workshop before the annual three-day conference, with a daily debriefing.

The Masters in Digital Forensics Science residency is held annually, usually in early August, in conjunction with the Digital Forensics Research Workshop at varying locations around the U.S.  For details about Champlain's residency participation in the conference, please contact the MSDF Program Manager, Bill Crane, at or go to

M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education

The program includes a residency in conjunction with a national conference in the program's first year.

Residencies for 2015:

  • June 7-10, 2015 in New Orleans, at the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) PDI Conference and Expo LA
  • November 18-21, 2015 in Orlando, FL at the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Annual Conference and Expo.

MS in Mediation and Conflict Studies

The Mediation program requires that students attend three face-to-face residencies. All courses that require face-to-face components also require online components. The courses requiring residency fit within the normal 8-week term schedule. Residencies are generally around the third week of the term.


The first residency is the longest and requires a total of 11 days on campus. During the first residency, students are required to take the following courses:

  • Interpersonal Conflict (2 days)
  • Conflict Intervention Skills (9 days)


The second and third residencies are six days each. Students will take MED 511 Advanced Practice I in the second residency and MED 512 Advanced Practice II in the third; both require 2.5 days of residency. Students must also choose two of the following four courses to be taken concurrently with the Advanced Practice courses:

  • Organizational Conflict (2.5 days)
  • Identity-based Conflict (2.5 days)
  • Facilitation (2.5 days)
  • Family/Divorce Mediation (2.5 days)

The sixth day of residencies 2 and 3 are reserved for special topics, as well as additional discussions with faculty, students and notables in the field.

Residencies are offered in the first Spring term (January – February) and Summer term (May–June) of each year. Students from all levels of the program and most faculty gather during the residencies, making them wonderful opportunities to create community, develop professional networks, and discuss issues of common concern among the program's members.

MS in Law

The MSL Program requires that students attend one face-to-face Graduate Law Residency. The Residency provides students with an opportunity to come together on Champlain College's campus in Burlington, Vermont for three days of seminars with featured keynote speakers, workshops facilitated by MSL faculty, academic advising and face-to-face engagement with fellow students. Seminars and workshops will emphasize the legal philosophy and essential practical tools used in all substantive law courses in the program, academic integrity, professional ethics, the state of (and changes to) the legal profession and the function of the law within non-law career contexts. The Residency is offered once per year in June. All students must attend one Residency in order to graduate from the MSL program. The Residency dates for 2015 are June 16, 17, and 18.
