What to Bring

As a residential student, you are provided with a bed, desk, chair, dresser and closet space. All residence halls have coin-operated washers and dryers. Several commercial laundry facilities are also available near the Champlain campus. As you prepare for your transition to living on campus, we offer some general guidelines on what to bring with you. For more detailed instructions, please read the Residential Life section of Champlain's student handbook.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Stackable crates (load them to travel with, stack them for storage)
  • Alarm clock
  • Desk lamp and light bulbs
  • Power strip with internal safety circuit breaker
  • Fan (window or table-top)
  • Stamps and address book
  • Small waste basket
  • Extra-long twin bed sheets (36" X 80") and pillow cases
  • Blankets, comforter, quilt, pillow, towels and wash cloths
  • Shower caddy to carry toiletries to bathroom
  • Shower sandals or slippers to go from shower to room
  • Laundry basket/bag and detergent
  • Rolls of quarters (for laundry)
  • Iron/small ironing board
  • Coat hangers
  • Cold-weather clothes and boots
  • Bowl, plate, cup, silverware, dish soap, sponges and dish towels for late night snacks
  • Erasable message board
  • Dictionary, thesaurus and calendar
  • Wall adhesive to hang posters

OPTIONAL:

  • PC or laptop (not required by Champlain but some students prefer having their own)
  • Stereo, TV, DVD player
  • First aid kit
  • Scissors and sewing kit
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Mini fridge
  • Bicycle and bike lock

WHAT NOT TO BRING:

  • Halogen lights
  • Toasters
  • Hot plates
  • Pets
  • Microwaves
  • Coffee pots
  • Candles
