Miller Center at Lakeside Campus
Our new facility houses 80 employees and brings together two of our Centers of Excellence — Emergent Media and Digital Investigation. Springing up almost overnight, thanks to our good friends at REM Development, the Miller Center provides the administrative space and parking our campus needed.
New Residential Facilities Under Construction
The additional housing called for in our master plan has begun. The first of three residence halls near the corner of Maple and South Willard streets is underway. The buildings will provide approximately 300 students with new on-campus housing.
Center for Financial Literacy Expands its Reach
The first of three Vermont Teachers Financial Literacy Summer Institutes (sponsored by Merchants Bank and the Merchants Bank Foundation) was held in August to help Vermont middle and high school teachers gain competencies in personal finance topics such as credit, budgeting and investing. In June, public policymakers, educators, businesspeople and other leaders gathered at the Vermont Financial Literacy Summit to discuss the need for additional personal finance education in Vermont. Governor Peter Shumlin opened the statewide conference, sponsored by TD Bank and National Life.
2011 Appreciative Inquiry Summit: Building Partnerships for a Thriving Workforce
To meet the challenges of an ever-changing 21st century workforce-and to support the new economic realities of doing business in Vermont and elsewhere-in August Champlain College brought together nearly 400 business professionals, alumni, parents, government officials, students, faculty, staff, trustees, and others to envision a new educational career model.
Center for Communication & Creative Media
The permitting process for the new home of our largest division, Communication and Creative Media, is underway. This addition to the William R. Hauke Family Campus Center will also house new dining space for our growing on-campus student population, classrooms and meeting spaces, and a transportation hub.
New Master's in Early Childhood Education
Champlain College introduced a Master's in Early Childhood Education program this fall, part of a growing list of graduate programs offered. Most of our master's degrees are online and can be accessed from anywhere in the world.
Three Challenge Funds: Turning $300,000 into $600,000
A Veterans Fund challenge for $100,000 has raised about $63,000 this year. In June, the Vermont First Scholarship program, supporting students who are the first in their family to attend college, received a challenge to raise $100,000. Thanks to the generosity of many, we successfully met this challenge. The Single Parents Program received another $100,000 challenge announced at the October Women Supporting Education for Women benefit event. We hope to meet this challenge and raise more than $200,000 in support of our single-parent students. We are grateful to the donors who support these important scholarship initiatives.
