Explore Through Self-Assessment

Greater self-knowledge will come into play as you:

  • Analyze different career options to determine how well they fulfill your values, interests, personality, and skills (VIPS).
  • Investigate specific job openings and companies based upon the same criteria.
  • Articulate to employers why they should hire you; your qualifications for the job; what you are looking for in a career; and how you feel about yourself, the employer, and the career.

career mapWhich assessments do we have in-house?

  1. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI): This personality inventory can help you identify your strengths, natural talents, and preferred ways of doing things. This information can help you make appropriate career decisions, help you understand and communicate better with others, both on the job and in your personal relationships. The College offers it free-of-charge to all currently enrolled students. Please contact our office for instructions.
  2. Strong Interest Inventory: This on-line interest inventory has become the most popular assessment to use with other undeclared students and major changers. The in-depth profile includes information on top interest areas, occupations, and potential majors. Please contact our office for the password to access this inventory. It takes approximately 20 minutes to complete, and it is followed up with a 45-minute interpretation.
  3. Knowdell Card Sorts: The Career Values Card Sort helps you indentify your top values after taking about twenty minutes to shuffle through the stack of cards and ordering them. These values should be considered when thinking about the environment of a future place of work.
  4. Elevations Card Sorts Package: This inventory helps you identify your values, skills, personality and career interests after going through an intensive sorting procedure. The package can be separated if you just want to review one portion. Please stop by if you would like to complete the assessment!

Other fun, free, on-line assessments!

  1. Personal DNA: This new kind of personality assessment is free, fun, fast and accurate. It has been designed by a team of professional psychologists and employs innovative answering techniques (filling in slime buckets), allowing for increased accuracy and an enjoyable process.
  2. My Plan Values Card Sort: Drag and drop values cards to help you decide what is important to you in a job. The test does this by asking you to rank different aspects of work that represent six underlying work values. Knowing your work values can help you decide what kinds of jobs and careers you might want to explore.
  3. Personality Page: Explore the MBTI even more! Great profiles and information about the background and results of the assessment.
