Mid-August Workshop

Audience: Current and newly hired part-time faculty
Content/Concepts: Addresses specific issues for part time faculty in areas such as: Classroom Management & Expectations; Student Engagement & Performance; Workload, Grading, & Evaluations; and Institutional Involvement. Facilitate the workshop in a manner that encourages part time faculty to share challenges and successes, to learn from each other, and to benefit from problem solving theory and techniques provided by the Director of CIP.
Design: Faculty generated concerns addressed via sharing of faculty challenges and successes and facilitated problem solving by Director of CIP
Offered: One, 2 ½ hour, weekday evening session
Take-Away: Practical - tips and techniques for handling classroom challenges along with the theory that makes them effective; Affective - sense of belonging to a community, awareness of institutional concern and support, realization of "It's not just me," fears addressed; challenges reframed as workable; awareness of benefit of reflective practice and peer support, awareness of benefit of CIP support, redefinition of support as sign of good practice, not of failure

Mid-September Presentation

Audience: Newly hired full and part time faculty
Content/Concepts: A presentation of how students learn developmentally, cognitively, and neurologically; and insights into the specific learning profile of Champlain students
Design: Concepts presented in a manner that helps faculty to build new knowledge about the theory and effective techniques of human learning
Offered: Two, 1 ½ hour sessions - one in a free time slot during the day, one on a weekday evening
Take-Away: Greater understanding of the following concepts and of their impact on student learning: our students' developmental stages, incremental learning, knowledge building in the brain, proactive knowledge, and functional and optimal performance

May Collaborative Workshops

Audience: All faculty
Content/Concepts: An instructional practice concept that supports active, engaged, student centered, and rigorous learning
Design: A hands-on workshop that includes theory, shared experience, practical methods, and pre-design for use in attendees' courses
Offered: Two, 2½-hours sessions - one during a weekday for full time faculty and one on a weekday evening for part time faculty
Take-Away: Greater understanding of the following concepts and of their impact on student learning: our students' developmental stages, incremental learning, knowledge building in the brain, proactive knowledge, and functional and optimal performanc.
