Annual Report of Gifts

Shelley Richardson, Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations

I never cease to marvel at the enthusiasm and optimism of the Champlain College community.

I've been employed by the College for more than a quarter-century, and every day, I'm still impressed with what happens here.

I take a regular dose of ribbing from my friends because I love my job so much. I just smile. They don't understand what it is to be a part of something as good as it is exciting, and to be at the center of an exchange where everyone involved wins-including me.

My job is deeply rewarding. Anyone who has ever had any association with the College-be it peripheral or intimate-will tell you that Champlain is a special place. If you walk on campus, go to an alumni event, sit in on a curriculum meeting, or even happen to run into a current student who has a part-time job working at the Gap, you can't help but feel the energy and affection people have for this institution.

This community prides itself on what we call "the human touch." Here, we value people as individuals; we promote and celebrate the initiative of each person in our community and believe that each person has a unique contribution he or she can make to enrich what the College offers for all.

I believe that nothing good is ever accomplished if your heart is just not in it. And throughout my career here, I've been surrounded by people whose hearts not only are in the right place, but give those people direction onwhat actions to take.

I want to take this opportunity to thank those who have had a hand in making Champlain College more than a collection of great buildings on a beautiful campus and more than a list of distinctive majors and programs.

Your participation has helped define Champlain as a living, evolving, warm, and welcoming community. Your continued involvement allows Champlain to remain fiercely committed to its own ideals and values-including civic responsibility, academic excellence, and innovation. You allow us to honor tradition while building for the future.

Warmly,
Shelley Richardson
