Richard J. Bove Sr. and his family's famous lasagna were recently honored with a gold Sofi award from the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade, taking the top award in the pasta, rice, and grain division, beating out 1,200 entries from all over the world for the best frozen pasta. Bove's Restaurant, a Burlington, institution, has been featured on the Food Network and on The Today Show.

Jack Cowdrey was recently honored by the Randolph Area Chamber of Commerce at its annual dinner and meeting in February 2010. Cowdrey, a longtime landlord of residential properties in Randolph Village, was named Outstanding Business Executive of the Year 2009 for his many business and volunteer accomplishments.  His community involvement includes board membership for Randolph Area Community Development Corp. (RACDC), the Food Shelf, and Gifford. He puts up wreaths and lights at Christmas, and is a member of Rotary Club, the Corvette Club, and the Snow Travelers.  He's also known as "Mr. Christmas Box." For more than 25 years, Cowdrey has overseen an annual project providing boxes of food for area folks who need a little help during the winter holidays.

Ron-Fatato<< Ron Fatato recently set up a challenge grant in the form of a Veteran's Fund at Champlain College.  Ron wants to honor the many military service men with whom he's had the honor to serve.  The Veteran's Fund will help with scholarships in the Yellow Ribbon program and to support all veterans who want to attend Champlain College.  Above is a photo Ron found when going through his things, from the '60's when he was a student at Champlain - "sporting his College spirit" at one of his big Italian family dinners in New York.

Kelly Q. Dietrich is chef-owner of Souza's Churrascaria, Burlington, Vt.  His wife, Edna De Souza, is from the state of Sao Paulo in Brazil and came to the United States  in 1989.  He and his wife travel to Brazil a few times a year, hosting culinary tours and visiting family.

Katy Blue is riding across the country from her home in Starksboro, Vt. to Seattle, Wash., in June 2010 to raise $50,000 for the MS Society. She is doing this in honor of her dad, Bob Blue, who had MS and passed away in 2006.  Check out the Vermont Chapter of the National MS Society online to read more about it.

Stephen D. Gonsalves owns Gonzo's Indoor Golf, which recently moved to a new location on Williston Road in South Burlington, Vt. The business offers "virtual" golf, meaning players can bring their own clubs and use Gonzo's golf balls to try and master any of 18 real-life courses presented in high-definition on 10-by-10-foot  screens.  The golf shots into the screens are real, and then cameras pick up the spin and speed of the shots and create the simulation from there.

Owen Milne has been with Business Interiors for five years and currently works as its marketing/new business/ environmental resource. He is also on the board of directors for VT Green Building Network (the local U.S. Green Building Council chapter). Recently Vt. Gov. James Douglas nominated Milne to serve on the Governors Council for the Employment of People with Disabilities. In addition, Milne serves on two steering committees with Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility. Lastly, Milne's daughter Ella just started her scholastic career in kindergarten - she was born Aug. 28, 2004.

Kimberly A. Kilbon was promoted to human resource and payroll director at Sports and Fitness Edge in Vermont.

Daniel E. Munzing is a junior art director at Kelliher Samets Volk (KSV) in Burlington, Vt., working primarily with client National Grid. Munzing began his career at KSV in 2008 as an interactive designer.

Matthew K. Williams graduated from Towson University Graduate School with a master's degree in Professional Scientific Writing, and worked as an editor for a major logistics company from March 2006 to April 2007. He then became a lead editor for a manufacturing company where his technical manual achieved best-in-class status. Williams is now a federal employee within the Department of the Interior in Denver, Colo., as a managing editor for the Mineral Revenue Management Agency, where he will manage all agency documentation.

Michael Jolin is working as a technical support representative/implementation consultant for a software/media company, Saxotech Inc. in Tampa, Fla. He joined the company in June 2008.

Kerri Wolynec has been hired as a commercial banking specialist at NBT Bank. She is responsible for providing a full range of support services to the bank's commercial banking team in Vermont.  Before joining NBT Bank, she worked for several financial companies in Vermont, including Citizens Bank, KPMG, and Northwestern Mutual.

Benjamin A. Kohler is the office manager for Continuing Professional Studies (CPS) administration at Champlain College. Kohler worked in CPS while at Champlain, as a tech assistant for three years. After graduation he worked at Fidelity Investments and then returned to Vermont to pursue his MBA.

Karen Patno recently joined the Human Resources and Organizational Development Department at Champlain College as senior coordinator. She will be responsible primarily for recruiting and hiring administrative support.  

Katelyn-Paulson<< Katelyn A. Paulson and her boyfriend, Adam Chaffee, completed a southbound Appalachian Trail through-hike in 2009. The 2,000-mile trail stretches from Mt. Katahdin in Maine to Springer Mountain in Georgia.

George F. Hurt is running for the New Hampshire State Senate seat in District 4.  Hurt, a longtime Gilford, N.H., resident, is the founder of Hurt and Forbes Insurance Agency of Laconia. He sold the business in 1999 and has continued his career as an insurance consultant with another local insurance agency. He also holds a real estate broker's license and is associated with Roche Realty Group of Meredith, N.H.

Alicia A. DeMartini was hired by PMG Public Relations in Burlington, Vt., in September as an assistant account executive.  She was promoted to account executive in January.

Laura A. Schles is a room operations supervisor at the Park Ridge Marriot.  She has held this position since November.

Matthew P. Huwyler is working as a technology consultant at FTI Consulting in New York, N.Y.

Miles D. Ewell is an assistant site director for the Boys & Girls Club of Burlington in Burlington, Vt.

Samuel J. Kaplan is a quality assurance technician with Frog Design, one of the top design firms in New York City N.Y.

Madeline McHugh was recently hired by Bilodeau, Wells & Co. in Essex Junction, Vt., as a staff accountant.

Zachary E. Manchester, an accountant with Davis and Hodgdon Associates of Williston, Vt., joined the board of directors of HomeShare Vermont in October. HomeShare Vermont is a nonprofit agency that helps elders and people with disabilities to live independently.

Stacey M. Dutil has been promoted to assessment counselor at Maple Leaf Farm in Underhill, Vt.

Dillon R. Brooker was named marketing and media specialist at Marketing Partners, Inc., a creative and marketing communications firm in Burlington, Vt. Brooker joined the firm as an intern, and has steadily worked on various projects since January of 2007.  His current responsibilities include assisting clients in the energy and health sectors with social media, advertising, and marketing campaigns, as well as coordinating the selection and placement of new interns.

Rebecca A. Irick is a receptionist at Hampton Direct, an importing and distribution firm in Williston, Vt.

Katherine Maund is the marketing and office support manager for international programs at Champlain College.

Known for their community involvement in the Burlington Garden Club and Zonta Club, the sisters were constant companions in their later years and were known and admired for their love of gardening, especially roses at their Burlington home.

Lula Ducas, 93, passed away on Oct. 11, 2009, and 
was predeceased by her sister, Angeline Ducas, 89, on 
Aug. 2, 2009, in Burlington. The sisters grew up in Waterbury, Vt., and both pursued careers and traveled. Lula graduated from Burlington Business College (now Champlain College) in 1936 and later earned a degree from the University of Vermont. She worked for the Vermont Department of Employment for many years before starting the first Kelly Girl Services franchise in Vermont. Angeline attended the University of Vermont and later earned a master degree in education from Emerson College in Boston. After many years of teaching English, she returned 
to Vermont and joined her sister running the Kelly Girl employment service.

Edward R. Eurich, Class of '36 Vermont lost one of its longtime leaders and advocates of agricultural excellence when Edward R. Eurich of Waitsfield passed away on Feb. 17, 2010. A 1936 graduate of Burlington Business College (now Champlain College) with a degree in Agricultural Business, Eurich used his skills as a farmer, community leader, and businessman to run his family's dairy farm, manage timberland, and run a maple operation. Among the many posts and jobs he held over the years: Vermont Commissioner of Agriculture (1969-73 and 1976-78); Manager of Champlain Valley Exposition (1973-76); president of the Vermont Farm Show; Trustee and board chair of the University of Vermont; president of the Northeastern Association of State Departments of Agriculture and the board of directors for the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture. In addition, Eurich served the Town of Waitsfield as a selectman for 18 years; served in the Vermont House of Representatives for four years, where he chaired the House Agricultural Committee; was a longtime trustee for the Chittenden Bank; and was active in the Vermont Republican Party for over 30 years. Eurich was an active member of the Free and Accepted Masons and his service to Free Masonry spanned five decades.

The-FamilySue Miller of Burlington, former faculty member and friend of Champlain College, passed away Sept. 13, 2009. Her sculpture, paintings, and pottery have been exhibited widely over the years, and are on permanent display at such institutions as the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, and the Fletcher Free Library. After turning 80, Miller began a new career as a teacher, when she accepted a position teaching drawing and sculpture at Champlain College. Four of her works are on permanent display at Champlain, including a marble sculpture titled "The Family," which may be viewed at the Lola Aiken Hall courtyard.
