Building the Future—Roger H. Perry Hall

The history of Roger H. Perry Hall will be celebrated this fall with the official opening of the new addition. Helping to make that possible is a $75,000 grant given over five years from Chittenden Bank to support the restoration project and the addition for the Champlain College Welcome Center. "We are proud to be part of the restoration of Perry Hall to create tomorrow's vision of Champlain College. This project fosters education of our new generations in a building that represents the proud renaissance of Burlington," said Michael Seaver, president, Chittenden Bank, a division of People's United Bank. "Perry Hall will provide a great first impression of Champlain College and Burlington to prospective visiting students and their families." Ground was broken in May 2009 and construction has remained ahead of schedule. Completion of the $15 million project is expected in mid-August, with a grand opening celebration on Sept. 24.
When completed, it will house the Admission, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and Advising and Registration departments, along with a library devoted to the history of the Hill residential neighborhood.
A project of this scope is important to both the College and Burlington, employing many local workers and contractors with Engleberth Construction of Colchester, the construction manager. The project also calls for energy-efficient climate control systems, including geothermal pumps using water from adjacent wells. The ultimate goal is to earn Platinum certification from The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.
