Refund Policy
In the case of voluntary withdrawal or dismissal from a course, a portion of your tuition may be refunded. You must notify the Registrar by telephone or in writing of your intent to withdraw from a course. The date this withdrawal notification is received by the Registrar, or the effective date, whichever is later, becomes the official withdrawal date and the basis for refund calculation.
In compliance with federal regulations, students attending Champlain for their first semester who have also received Title IV federal aid will receive credit through the first 60% of the course term for tuition equal to that portion of the semester (or for short courses, the term of the course) that remains on the withdrawal date, rounded downward to the nearest 10% of that period, less any unpaid amount of a scheduled cash payment for the semester for which the student has been charged.
For all other students not attending for the first time and/or not receiving Title IV aid, such refunds, assuming that all financial obligations for the respective semester have been met, will be computed per the semester’s Tuition Refund Tables.
Federal financial aid
The responsibility for returning unearned Title IV (federal) aid is shared between Champlain College and you. It is allocated according to the portion of disbursed aid that could have been used to cover College charges, and the portion that could have been disbursed directly to you once those charges are covered. Champlain College will distribute unearned aid back to the Title IV programs as specified by law. You will be billed for the amount that you owe to the Title IV programs, as well as any amount due to the College as a result of Title IV aid that was returned that would have been used to cover College charges.
Students should be aware that under federal regulations, any refund due as a result of withdrawal from the College must first be applied to repay ineligible federal loans and grants with any remaining credit then refundable to the student. In compliance with these regulations, refunds would be attributable in the following order:
- Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan
- Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan
- Federal Parent PLUS Loan
- Federal Perkins Loan
- Federal Pell Grant
- Federal SEOG Grant
- State Grant
- The Student
