Professional & Creative Writing
The Professional & Creative Writing program through Champlain’s Division of Continuing Professional Studies offers you the opportunity to become skilled in a variety of writing techniques, traditions and genres. You will learn the art and craft of writing, and the skills needed to flourish in a professional writing career. Champlain’s program allows you to choose to concentrate on either media and creative writing, or business and technical writing.
Program highlights:
- Design a program to fit your career aspirations - whether you want to be creative or technical, we have a curriculum that fits. Our media and creative writing track will prepare you for such careers as advertising, public relations, publishing and journalism. Our business and technical writing courses focus on corporate brochures and newsletters, grant writing, and technical manuals.
- Learn to conduct quality interviews, maintain high ethical standards, meet deadlines, work in teams and with a variety of clients, and how to adjust the tone of your writing to most effectively communicate with your audience.
- Develop and maintain a portfolio to showcase your work to potential employers and/or graduate schools.
- Learn about real-life writing careers from professional writers – as mentors both in and out of the classroom, the faculty contribute a wealth of experience from a variety of writing backgrounds. As successful published writers themselves, your instructors can help you decide what material appeals to readers, they can review and edit drafts of your writing, and offer comments to improve your work.
- Explore a variety of career opportunities. Not sure what area of professional writing you want to pursue? At Champlain, not only will you gain the real-world skills needed to succeed in a variety of companies or organizations, but you will also make the contacts necessary to determine what style best fits you.
