Media Studies

Are you ready for a fast-paced career in the media industry? Radio or Television? Magazine or newspapers? Web or electronic media production? Not sure?  Get a taste of all aspects of the field in the media studies bachelor’s degree program through Champlain College’s Continuing Professional Studies Division.

Through a balanced approach, the program simultaneously develops technical skill and an understanding of the artistic, historical and theoretical traditions on which the discipline is built. As a student in this program, you will learn to

  • Step back and look at the media with a critical eye by investigating the political and economic institutions that have shaped the media.
  • Examine the artistic and social heritage through which film, broadcasting and the print media have developed.
  • Study the social and psychological structures, which both influence and are influenced by the media.
Produce a quality media product with assignments built around real-world media situations such as shooting, writing, and editing a TV news story; a Web news release or producing a music video under deadline.
