Social Work
Every day, millions of people struggle with disabling social or physical conditions affecting their ability to live independently and productively. These people need help to cope with life’s challenges, and with a degree in social work and human services through Champlain’s Division of Continuing Professional Studies you will gain the knowledge, experience and understanding of values and ethics in applying social work practices necessary to help individuals, families, and communities achieve greater self-sufficiency and healthier functioning.
Program Highlights:
- Learn highly-important interviewing, active listening, teamwork and creative problem-solving skills as they apply to a social work setting.
- Perform up to 600 hours of fieldwork in a variety of social-service agencies helping children, families, teens or the elderly.
- Learn from faculty with a variety of professional experiences, including those who have run an adoption agency, served in residential treatment centers, worked for child protective services, managed Vermont’s Welfare-to-Work program, and counseled clients in private practice.
- Learn the professional values and ethics of social work practice, legal obligations and ethical decision-making strategies of the various approaches/fields/settings of the profession.
- Learn the concepts of human development in a social context through interactions with and assessments of diverse and global populations, including those at risk.
