Champlain College Commencement

Rehearsal

On-Campus, Traditional, Undergraduates: Rehearsal will take place on Friday, May 12th from 10:00am - 11:00 am under the tent at Edmunds Field, near Skiff Hall. You will come to the tent, check-in under the tent, and take a seat to run through instructions for the Commencement Ceremony.

Continuing Professional Studies (Online) Undergraduates & Master's: There is no rehearsal for this ceremony, however, instructions will be provided prior to the ceremony.


Commencement Ceremonies

Traditional, On-Campus, Undergraduates: The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the Edmunds School Field, which is located on Main Street, adjacent to Skiff Hall. Students must arrive no later than 9:00 am for check-in and line-up in the appropriate location, based on your division (see below.) If you have not checked in by 9:15 am, your name will not be announced during the ceremony.

  • CCM-Finney Quad - Valcour Hall

  • EHS-Finney Quad - Butler Hall

  • ITS-Perry Hall Tent

  • Stiller School-Perry Hall Tent

Continuing Professional Studies (Online) Undergraduates & Master's: The ceremony will begin promptly at 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the Edmunds School Field, which is located on Main Street, adjacent to Skiff Hall. Students must arrive no later than 2:15 pm for check-in and line-up in Finney Quad. If you have not checked in by 2:30 pm, your name will not be announced during the ceremony.


Hooding Ceremonies

Master's Students ONLY: The hooding ceremonies will being promptly at 4:00 pm on Friday, May 12, 2017. The hooding ceremonies will take place in the Champlain Room and the Argosy Gymnasium, depending on your program (see below). Students must arrive no later than 3:00 pm for check-in and line-up in the appropriate location (see below). If you have not checked in by 3:15 pm, your name will not be announced during the ceremony.

Argosy Gymnasium (line-up in either the Fireside Lounge or the Fitness Center in IDX Student Life Center) - Master of Business Administration, Master of Science in Digital Forensic Management, Master of Science in Digital Forensic Science and Master of Science in Executive Leadership

Champlain Room (line-up in EATs in the CCM Building) - Master of Fine Arts in Emergent Media, Master of Science in Emergent Media, Master of Science in Health Care Administration, Master of Education in Early Childhood Education, Master of Science in Law, Master of Science in Mediation & Applied Conflict Studies and Master of Science in Managing Innovation & Information Technology


Tickets

Hooding Ceremonies: Each guest is required to have a ticket to enter either the Argosy Gym or Champlain Room (no matter the age of the guest and whether or not they will sit in an actual seat). There are no areas available for guests without tickets to view the ceremony. The graduate does NOT need a ticket.

Commencement Ceremonies: Each guest is required to have a ticket to enter the tent (no matter the age of the guest and whether or not they will sit in an actual seat). There are no areas available at the tent for guests without tickets. The graduate does NOT need a ticket.

ALL: The graduate was meant to go to the Champlain College ticket website to acquire tickets for any ceremony. The website then would have emailed you a confirmation with your e-tickets attached in a PDF. You would then print the tickets out and provide to each guest. If you have NOT received these, or have yet to order tickets, the ticket website is now closed so please email Shaylea Scribner at sscribner@champlain.edu.

Commencement Attire

ALL: Please note that this is an outdoor ceremony and that the weather in Vermont can be unpredictable. Please check weather forecasts leading up to May 13, 2017, and dress accordingly. Black or dark color shoes are recommended. We ask you not to wear shorts, flip-flops or running shoes. Please be careful with high heels, as you will be walking on grass, and going up and down steps to the stage. Please do not bring items such as purses or backpacks. There is no secure place to keep them.


Professional Photographs

For both ceremonies: A professional photographer from Grad Images (Fairfield, Iowa) will be at the commencement ceremony. Information and proofs will be mailed to you directly from the company so you can purchase what you like. You are under no obligation to purchase photographs. After the ceremony, you may order online at www.gradimages.com or call 800.424.3686.


Parking

ALL: The majority of parking lots on the Champlain College campus are available for handicap only. Parking is also allowed on city streets, unless indicated by "No Parking" or "Residential Only" signs. We strongly recommend parking at the Miller Center at Lakeside Campus (175 Lakeside Ave). Shuttles will be running ALL DAY. Shuttle drop-off will be on Main Street near the Champlain College Gallery, and pick-up will be on South Willard Street in front of Roger H. Perry Hall. Reception

Hooding Ceremonies (Master's Students ONLY): A reception, featuring cocktails and light appetizers, will follow immediately after the ceremony under a tent at Roger H. Perry Hall.

Traditional, On-Campus, Undergraduates: A reception, featuring a light lunch and refreshments, will follow immediately after the ceremony under a tent at Roger H. Perry Hall.

Continuing Professional Studies (Online) Undergraduates & Master's: A reception, featuring cocktails and light appetizers, will follow immediately after the ceremony under a tent at Roger H. Perry Hall.


Applying for Graduation

ALL: The Application for Graduation is now closed. If you have not yet specified whether or not you will attend graduation, please reach out to Tara Arneson in the Registrar's Office. She can be reached at tarneson@champlain.edu or 802-865-5702.


Caps & Gowns

On-Campus, Traditional Undergraduates: If you have not yet received your cap and gown, you may pick it up at rehearsal on Friday, May 12th at 11:00 a.m. at the Edmunds Field Tent.

Continuing Professional Studies (Online) Undergraduates: If you have not ordered a cap and gown, you will be able to get one when you check-in for graduation on Saturday, May 13th. 

Master's: If you have not yet ordered a cap and gown, you will be able to get one when you check-in for your hooding ceremony on Friday, May 12th (if attending), or Saturday, May 13th when you check-in for commencement. Please note that hoods will be given to you at the hooding ceremonies or at commencement depending on what you are attending.


Who is Eligible to Participate?

On-Campus, Traditional Undergraduates: Students who have completed all of their degree requirements will receive their diplomas and have appropriate academic honors announced at the commencement ceremony.

In addition, bachelor's degree students who are within seven credits and associate's degree students who are within four credits of meeting degree requirements may participate in the ceremony as long as they have at least a 2.0 GPA. These non-graduating participants will receive their diplomas and be awarded academic honors only upon successful completion of their remaining academic requirements. Academic honors will not be given to non-graduating participants because these awards are based on students' cumulative grade point averages at the conclusion of their academic programs.

Continuing Professional Studies (Online) Undergraduates: Students who have completed all of their degree requirements will receive their diplomas and have appropriate academic honors announced at the commencement ceremony.

Master's: Students who have completed all their degree requirements will receive their hoods at the Hooding Ceremonies on Friday, May 12, 2017, and diplomas at the Continuing Professional Studies Undergraduate & Master's Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 13, 2017. Master's students are eligible to participate as non-graduating participants if they meet the following conditions:

  1. Are within one course of meeting all requirements
  2. Have a CGPA of 3.0 or higher

It should be noted that whereas both graduates and non-graduating participants are listed by name and hometown in the graduation program, non-graduating participants are ineligible to receive their diploma or have their name listed in local media until they have successfully completed their remaining academic requirements.


Transferring Credits

Undergraduate Only: If you have recently transferred credits from another institution, please verify with the Advising & Registration staff that we have those credits on record. Call 802.860.2777 or email registrar@champlain.edu.


Graduation Fair

On-Campus, Traditional, Undergraduates Only: The Graduation Fair will take place on Thursday, April 20, 2017, from 3:00-6:00 pm in the Argosy Gym in the IDX Student Life Center. This is an opportunity for you to take care of all the tasks necessary for graduation: pick up your cap & gown and other commencement information, meet with career services and alumni staff, sign up for senior week activities, order class rings and diploma frames, and get student loan exit counseling information. There will also be refreshments, music and a photo booth!

All: Announcements may be ordered at www.balfour.com or 1-877-BALFOUR(225-3687). More information on announcements will be mailed to you from Balfour shortly.


Accessibility

For both ceremonies, if any guests have special needs (such as wheelchairs or hearing impairment), please let us know at graduation@champlain.edu in advance so that accommodations can be made.


Residence Halls

Traditional, On-Campus, Undergraduates: All graduating students must move out of residence halls by noon on Sunday, May 14, 2017 (the day after graduation).
