Dr. Frenzen has been on the Champlain faculty since 2003. She teaches Introductory Marketing, Consumer Behavior and Research and Sophomore and Senior Internship courses at Champlain. Dr. Frenzen graduated at the top of her class with a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Vermont prior to working in Event Marketing for Travel and Leisure Magazine in New York City. After her tenure in the ‘big city', she returned to Burlington to pursue her MBA, again, at the University of Vermont. Upon her graduation she worked in direct marketing, catalog management and public relations for various companies across the country. An insatiable appetite for learning sent Dr. Frenzen back to school at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst for her doctoral studies. She completed her Ph.D. in 2009 after defending her dissertation, entitled "Determinants of Environmentally Conscious Consumer Behaviors: Measuring the Value Consumer Environmentalism and Predicting Behavioral Intention to Purchase Environmentally Friendly Goods".
Dr. Frenzen is a regional board member, outreach committee chair and governing board marketing committee member for the Vermont Symphony Orchestra. She also volunteers on the in-patient pediatric floor of the local hospital with the older of her two Golden Retrievers, therapy dog Barley. In addition to her local volunteer work, Dr. Frenzen and her husband, an accomplished hand surgeon, spend a considerable amount of time volunteering for a pediatric hospital in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Dr. Frenzen frequently encourages students to assist on marketing and public relations projects for the hospital and spends the vast majority of her free time overseas.
In her own words, Dr. Frenzen is passionate about teaching in the field of marketing because, "it doesn't necessarily matter if a student wants to pursue a career in the field of marketing, I believe understanding the ‘machine' that IS marketing is absolutely critical to functioning as a responsible adult in today's society. This belief enables me to teach EVERY class with passion and to treat each student as if their life depends on learning the fundamentals of the material presented in my courses. After all, each student will have to market THEMSELVES once they hit the job market upon graduation, and, I hope by that point they will see that marketing can be used a powerful tool to affect positive change in their own lives, their communities and across the globe".
Currently, Dr. Frenzen has students pursuing internships at the following locations:
• Burton Snowboards
• Magic Hat Brewery
• Marketing Partners
• Epik One
• The Vermont Symphony Orchestra
• Dolma Designs
• The University Mall
• Select Design
• Battle for Burlington
Dr. Frenzen currently lives in Burlington with her husband, Seth, and their two Golden Retrievers, Barley & Bella. They are also a ‘waiting family' to adopt a child from Ethiopia. Dr. Frenzen and her husband met on a chairlift at Stowe Mountain Resort in 2004 and are still passionate about living the ‘mountain life', although they regularly debate whether skiing or snowboarding is the best way to do so. They also enjoy fly-fishing, tying flies, mountain biking and international travel.
