Mike Lange comes to Champlain from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and his Midwestern roots often show. He is an anthropologist and a folklorist, studying how people use narrative to create and maintain their cultural identities. He has done work in Scotland, Scandinavia, and most recently Morocco. He is currently teaching a course on ethnographic writing, exploring how ethnography (a process for exploring aspects of a cultural group) can be used to inform different types of writing, everything from biography through fiction to journalism.

Twenty-two years ago Mike was sitting in my class-as a student; now he's coming back as a trustee of the College, and he is the CEO of a global company. It was so cool to be able to introduce him to the class and say he was in their seat 22 years ago as a student-for them to see how someone has progressed was great.
