Professor Morris recently left a successful corporate career to fulfill a life-long dream of sharing her passion of accounting with students in the classroom. Each day she challenges students to get outside of the textbook and think of accounting in terms of its real life applications. It is the “ah ha” moments when students take what they have read and internalize it that strengthens her enthusiasm and commitment to teaching.
Professor Morris graduated from Siena College in Loudonville, NY in 2000 and grew up in Saratoga Springs, NY. Since graduation, she has held several positions including senior auditor for KPMG and controller for a local credit union. After obtaining her CPA license, she spent 5 years in various positions of increasing responsibility in the Finance Department at GE Healthcare. Her positions centered around the implementation of Sarbanes Oxley, software revenue recognition, managing system conversions and Six Sigma process improvement.
During her time at GE Healthcare, she obtained her MBA from Marist College, located in Poughkeepsie, NY. In September, 2008 she joined the Accounting faculty at Champlain College. Her teaching responsibilities currently include: Intermediate Accounting, Advanced Accounting and CPA Review at the undergraduate level, as well as Advanced Managerial Accounting and Survey of Accounting for Champlain’s MBA program.
Professor Morris is a dedicated and committed member of the CPA profession. Locally, she is a board member of the Vermont State Society of CPAs and committee chair of the VTCPA Student Recruitment Task Force. On a national level, she was selected as one of twenty-eight young professionals from across the country to attend the AICPA leadership academy in the summer of 2009. In fall of 2009, she was honored to accept a nomination to become a member of the AICPA Student Recruitment Task Force.
Outside of work Professor Morris devoted to her amazing family. She and her husband have been blessed with a 4 year old son and 2 year old identical twin daughters. Having a young family certainly keeps her on her toes! They enjoy the outdoors as much as possible; exploring all there is to love about Vermont. Outdoor activities including, hiking, skiing, and swimming in Vermont’s beautiful lakes take on new perspectives when seen through the eyes of their children.
