Tanya Stone
Tanya Lee Stone was an English major at Oberlin College, then went on to become an editor and earn a Masters Degree in Education. After 13 years as an editor, Tanya moved to Vermont and returned to writing. This award-winning author has written nearly 90 books for young readers. Her best-known titles are a young adult poetry novel about teen love and sex, A Bad Boy Can Be Good for a Girl (Random House), and picture book biographies Elizabeth Leads the Way: Elizabeth Cady Stanton and the Right to Vote (Henry Holt) and Sandy's Circus (Viking). Forthcoming titles include Almost Astronauts: 13 Women Who Dared to Dream (Candlewick 2009) about 13 women who excelled at all the astronaut testing in 1961 but were not allowed into the space program because they were women, and Barbie: For Better, For Worse (Viking, 2010), which will examine the history of the Barbie doll and girl culture in America.
Stone is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, the Authors Guild, PEN American Center, ALAN (The Assembly on Literature for Adolescents), and the National Council Against Censorship. She has been a featured speaker at the Texas Book Festival, the Vermont League of Writers, National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), the International Reading Association (IRA), the American Library Association (ALA), and multiple schools and libraries.
