The Wellness Committee at Champlain College works to create a culture of wellbeing wherein all employees are encouraged to participate in diverse and holistic activities that engage, excite and empower individuals to discover paths to wellbeing. Our goal is to provide the resources, programs and community that will induce employees to be stewards of their physical, social and spiritual wellbeing while improving their overall health.
We will strengthen the bodies, minds and spirits of employees and create an environment where the challenge to "FIND YOUR WELLBEING" is embraced by all.
There are several activities and learning opportunities for you to experience and explore your wellbeing in the next few weeks. Please read down through the list as there are a variety of options. Vermont City Marathon and Relay—Champlain College has secured four relay teams: 2 - 2person and 2 - 3-5 person teams. The Vermont City Marathon and Relay takes place on Sunday, May 24th in Burlington. This is a fun, well supported community event. We would like to open this up to all interested College members that may want to participate. Once we glean who is interested, we will figure out a way to fill the teams fairly, through a lottery if necessary. If you are interested please complete the attached form by March 27th. The Vermont City Marathon and Relay is also looking for volunteers to work at the relay stops. If you are interested please complete the attached form by March 27th .
Corporate Cup 2015—The Vermont Corporate Cup Challenge and State Agency Race is a 5k team running/walking event open to businesses, government and non-profit organizations in Vermont. The proceeds from this event benefit the many programs and events of the Vermont Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. The race will be held on Thursday, May 14th in Montpelier, Vermont. Create your own team or let us include you in a team. If you are interested by please complete the attached form by April 17th.
National Walk @ Lunch Day is Wednesday, April 29th. Wear your walking shoes and join us by taking a walk at lunch. Grab a couple co-workers and document your journey for us. Send pictures to email@example.com
Dr. Stephen Brandon from Chiropractic For Kids & Adults was one of our vendors at the Benefits and Wellbeing Fair on February 13th. He has graciously given us several coupons for a free consultation with his office. To obtain a certificate just make a request to champwellness @champlain.edu.
Gentle Yoga—The Monday evening Strength & Stretch session will be replaced by Gentle Yoga beginning on March 30th. Join us at Lakeside 101/102 on Mondays at 5:15.
Women's Instructional Golf Clinic—The Burlington Country Club is offering its Women's Instructional Golf Clinic again this year. The spring series begins April 16th and runs through June 4th. The cost is $175 for the 8 sessions and qualifies for Wellbeing reimbursement dollars.
Optimizing Social Security Retirement Benefits—In this special presentation, Peter Weinbaum, The Social Security Maven®, will open your eyes to the complexities of the Social Security system and the opportunities it affords. He will show you how real people are able to "find" thousands of dollars of additional Social Security benefits that they never knew existed. This will be held on Tuesday March 31st at 3:30 in Lakeside 101/102. Please feel free to bring your spouse or partner. Please register for this seminar no later than March 27th completing the attached form.
Ergonomics: How best to set up your work space—Have you ever wondered the proper way to set up a workstation? Or why sometimes you may be in pain at your workstation? What if you can't afford new furniture or computers, are there ways to make adjustments to help make you feel better and prevent ergonomic injuries? By using some simple tools we will teach you how you can be the ergo specialist at your workplace. You will become proficient in noticing awkward postures or a poor set up that could cause issues, and be able in most cases to make the needed change. There will be 2 sessions: Wednesday April 8th at noon in the Morgan Room and Wednesday, April 15th at noon in Lakeside 101/102. Bring your lunch and we will supply dessert and a beverage.
