Students

Why should your student attend the Governor's Institute of Vermont?

GIV is designed to give students a truly world-class experience with in-depth resources and topnotch professional mentoring.  GIV exists to help students discover their passion for learning, expand their horizons, and successfully pursue the higher learning that will land them the career of their dreams.

The Human Touch
GIV students benefit from a high degree of personal attention.  There is an average of one faculty member for every five students and the overall staff-to-student ratio is one staff member for every three students. Instruction is provided by industry-experienced college professors. Our Resident Assistants are a combination of Champlain College and UVM undergrads, graduate students and recent graduates who organize activities and participate in all aspects of classes, projects and living. RAs will spend each night in Juniper Hall with the GIV students and several RAs have previously been GIV students themselves.

Quotes from 2013 Parents:

" Governor's Institute is incredible. I can't believe how much you accomplished in a week! I can't believe how much my whole family learned from the experience because my son was so excited he came back and shared with all of us."

"The faculty and RA's were fantastic and he was blown away by how smart and nice they were... It was inspiring to see all of the cool projects these superb kids were working on all week."

"Russ learned a ton about technology and himself, and he enjoyed meeting so many of "his people"."

" We can't thank you all enough for the amazing program this past week.  Our son gained so much, in so many facets of his life... Along with the knowledge that is gained from interacting with new people, all with different ideas and ways of processing information, he also made strides in his confidence to organize and present a complicated subject to a group (of judges) in an unfamiliar setting."

"The interactions with college professors/community gave her new insight into what higher learning 'feels' like, and she appreciated and made several noted differences. It always touches a parent's heart to see their child flourish, and GIV has made that possible for so many young people."

"Clearly, the energetic dynamic at GIV is one of immense respect, love of learning, and gratitude.  This conscious and holistic approach towards teaching is what we appreciated the most."

"Arya is definitely more self confident in his work with IT, seeking internships from people he knows in the area. We know he was given some amazing opportunities, but we were so incredibly impressed to see our quiet son that does not like to be in the spotlight at all take the microphone and present his project with such confidence in front of all the parents. He spoke so clearly, confidently, and truly knew what he was talking about. It was clearly his shining moment!"

" It was an absolutely amazing experience that our son will remember forever. Thank you so much for making it so special."
