Benjamin Piper, MBA
Approaching Change
I’m of the opinion that as an employee in the global economy, you need to bring everything you can to the table. And in these uncertain economic times, you have to be able to demonstrate that you add value and that you’re not just there to collect a paycheck.
I’m midway through the Champlain MBA program now, and what’s been a surprise to me is that the way the program is set up and run has created opportunities for me from the beginning—I’ve been able to leverage the program in my current job. I routinely take what I’m learning in the program and apply it to my organization. I’ve already utilized so much of what I’ve learned in class at work.
That’s a huge benefifit of the program. I don’t know if other MBA programs do this, but applying the classwork to real-life situations has really helped me learn to manage so many organizational issues.
I’ve found that the IRP framework helps me in the way I approach situations and problems and how I might try to solve those problems. It’s opened my eyes and given me more of a big-picture perspective on how things work. Through this MBA program, I’m really able to see why we do things the way we do in my company, and I can now leverage that knowledge to try to guide a specific outcome; what I’ve learned so far already guides the way I now approach specific tasks, or issues, or projects.
I feel fortunate to be getting my MBA from Champlain. It’s as though it has been tailored to my personal and professional needs. I wanted a challenge, and I’m getting it.
