Forensic Accounting
Become an accounting super
sleuth. In this introduction to forensic (fraud) accounting,
you’ll learn various fraud examination techniques,
including interview techniques, rules of evidence
relating to fraud, internal control methodology, asset
misappropriation and financial statement misrepresentation.
Learn rules of evidence as they relate to several
different fraudulent and illegal activities such as
wagering, money laundering, cash skimming and embezzlement.

Program Highlights
With Champlain’s unique curriculum, you’ll
study accounting your very first semester to develop a solid foundation
of accounting skills over your first two years. In Years 3 and
4, you’ll take advanced accounting courses and develop the
communication and problem-solving skills employers demand.
- Develop strategic thinking through a variety
of business courses and enhance your analytical skills through
courses in mathematics and statistics.
- Learn to employ computer technology in solving
accounting problems.
- Compete for a paid internship at a local
or regional CPA firm and/or apply for one of several scholarships
awarded to accounting students by local and regional CPA firms
and professional organizations.
- Provide tax assistance to elderly and low-income
people through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program
in conjunction with the IRS and the Vermont State Tax Department.
- Interview right on campus with recruiters
from CPA firms and captive insurance management firms.
- Take the CPA exam in Vermont after
completing several special accounting electives. (If you plan
to take the CPA exam in another state, you’ll need to
familiarize yourself with the rules of that state.)
