Putting it all Together
As a senior, you’ll take Senior
Seminar in Applied Psychology, where you will take
stock of your experience and knowledge to demonstrate
mastery of the field. Each student will prepare a
final project that integrates an internship experience
with scholarly research. The goal is to add to your
understanding of some problem or issue in the psychology
field.
A portfolio requirement helps students
refine career goals throughout the four-year program.
Internship experiences, research projects and progressive
coursework all contribute to portfolio content. As
you add to your portfolio, you can reflect on your
interests and strengths so you can make good choices
about your future.
The bottom line is: Applied Psychology
students will not have writer’s block when it
comes time to write their résumés.
“This program really gives
students the tools to work in a large variety of situations,”
says program director Dr. Sue Rowley. “They
should be very different people when they come out
-- more accomplished, more confident, more focused.
And, they’ll know what skills and strengths
they have to offer.”

A Wide Variety
of Employment Opportunities
The National Center for Educational Statistics
estimates that 75,000 bachelor’s degrees in psychology were
awarded nationwide in 2001. About a quarter of these degree recipients
continue to graduate programs; the remaining 75 percent find work
related to their major in business, government or non-profit settings.
A Champlain College Applied Psychology
degree will set you apart from that 75 percent.
With three required internships under your belt
and a portfolio that demonstrates a professional
focus, you will be poised for a variety of “people”
careers, such as human resource management, affirmative
action or benefits administration, corporate training,
recruitment, marketing or other management positions.
Champlain College graduates will also be positioned
for careers in education, government and manufacturing.
