Public Relations

"The faculty at Champlain is first-class. They are completely hands-on and they really want to see their students succeed. The courses gave me a great foundation for what the actual workplace is like. You need to have very specific skills to enter the PR field and Champlain's classes were right on. Plus, thanks to Champlain's great reputation in the community, I was able to gain experience working in PR for high-profile local businesses."

- Nora Haynes '02, Publicist, GQ Magazine

Program Highlights

One of the strengths that distinguishes this PR program from many other PR programs is its practical and “hands-on” nature, designed around the needs of career–minded students and the profession.

Learn to write eye-catching press releases and prepare media press kits. Practice how to creatively promote your product, person or group -- whether it’s a rock band, a politician or a ski resort.

  • Prepare to become the communications link between any type of organization and its public, whether the organization is a sports team, rock band, non-profit agency or global corporation. Learn how to counsel management on matters of public opinion and social responsibility.

  • Learn the art of communication to help an organization create and maintain its positive image. You will study and practice varied communication activities: special event planning, media relations, public speaking, and creation of news releases, brochures and newsletters.

  • Use professional video, audio, multimedia, writing software and computer-graphics equipment to illustrate and enliven what you learn in class. Become familiar with various media and broadcast writing styles.

  • Test your skills in the real world with a 140-hour internship at a local public relations firm, nonprofit organization or ad agency.

  • Learn from public relations professionals well-versed in such areas as media relations, campaign strategy, press relations and writing.
