| Semester
2: |
| One
full day a week with kids! You've been in classes. Now it's
time to see if you really want to be a teacher. You won't
be idle. You will be put right to work with kids from preschool
through sixth grade. And you even get to teach your first
lesson plan. |
 |
| Semester
3: |
| Now
you are up to two days a week with kids! And now you have
more responsibility with preschoolers. Reading stories, making
snacks, going for a walk on Church Street, leading a song-all
part of your job in this fall semester. Managing small groups
of three or four and leading the whole group of twenty are
all part of your day. |
 |
| Semester
4: |
| Again
is two days a week with kids but this time it is with kindergarten
through third graders! Now there is more content: teaching
beginning reading, developing challenging science experiments
and planning a week-long unit on Lake Champlain or Fractions. |
 |
| Semester
5 & 6: |
| You
are still spending time with kids! It is a bit less but now
it is with third through sixth graders working in the curriculum
areas of Language Arts or Science. You will do some one-on-one
tutoring and even get to plan a science lesson. |
 |
| Semester
7: |
| You
have now decided on the grade and the teacher where you will
be for this last year of college! You will spend about a half
day a week in a first through sixth grade classroom which
will become a second home to you. The focus this fall is on
the teaching of math but your teacher will have you doing
much, much more. |
 |
| Semester
8: |
| This
is it! Full time student teaching. This is when you really
find out what it is like to wake up every morning excited
to go to school! You are a teacher. You are the solo teacher
for at least two weeks of the semester. You teach kids. You
work with parents. You are known throughout the school. You
hate to say goodbye. The four years have been worth it. You
are now ready to have your own classroom!!!! |
