WHAT CAN I DO WITH THIS
DEGREE?
The Master of Science in Managing
Innovation & Information Technology (MSMIIT) degree
prepares you to meet the real problems and opportunities
in today’s workplace by focusing on both key management
skills and on managing information innovatively. It will
enhance your management capability in virtually any organizational
setting. A graduate of this program will be better able
to provide leadership because decisions in today’s
world demand a firm understanding of the issues surrounding
the creative use of information technology as a strategic
tool.

WHY GET A MSMIIT INSTEAD
OF AN MBA?
The MSMIIT degree is more narrowly
focused than an MBA. Most traditional MBA degrees provide
an overview of areas such as accounting, economics, organizational
behavior, finance, marketing, operations, information systems
and statistics. The strength of an MBA is its breadth. Its
weakness is a lack of focus on providing depth of understanding
in any specific area.
The MSMIIT degree focuses on a core set
of practical, non-theory based skills such as project management,
financial decision-making and managing innovation and the
related use of information technology from a management
and decision-making perspective. You’ll graduate with
the skills and self-confidence to understand key technologies
and to assume a leadership role in many organizations’
greatest capital assets: information and the intellectual
capital that it produces.

WHAT KINDS OF JOBS CAN
I EXPECT TO GET WITH THIS DEGREE?
Many applicants to this program may
have positions they like but want to enhance their skills.
Or, if you want to move to a new position or into a management
career, you’ll be prepared for a position as a manager
in a small or medium-scale business or nonprofit organization.
You may contribute to IT strategy and/or product development
strategy. These positions may be director level. Chief Technology
Officer (CTO) and Chief Information Officer (CIO) positions
are also possibilities.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE
TO COMPLETE THE PROGRAM?
We recommend that you think about
the amount of time that you can devote to the program, given
professional, family and other commitments. Plan to spend
about 13-15 hours per week per course. It becomes a personal
decision. You may want to start with one course and see
how that fits with your schedule. We do not recommend taking
more than two courses per quarter.
